Chemical Peels: More About Products
As skin resurfacing becomes more and more popular, brand or product names proliferate. It can be difficult to distinguish between what is a procedure and what is a brand name for that procedure. Though this list is far from complete, here are a few popular names you may hear about.

Obagi Blue Peel
Formulated by dermatologist Zein E. Obagi, M.D., this is a TCA-type peel that, combined with its base ingredients which include FD&C color blue#1, allows the doctor to apply the peel in such a way that promotes even distribution of the chemical solution, a slower release of the solution to help reduce irritation, and slower penetration of the chemicals resulting in less of a burning sensation. The procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes and can be performed without sedatives. If a deeper exfoliation is desired, an additional number of coats of the chemical can be applied during the procedure. The treated skin begins to peel within two to three days and is healed relatively painlessly in seven to 10 days. The Blue Peel procedure can be repeated every four to six weeks, as necessary to correct skin problems.

Parisian Peel
See "Microdermabrasion." The treatment is performed in the doctor’s office and requires no anesthesia. A stream of very fine, chemically inert exfoliates the outermost layers of the skin, and are vacuumed away. The procedure is repeated in a series of treatments.

BioMedic MicroPeel
A type of light AHA peel, the MicroPeel is a three step process that takes 15-20 minutes. First, the skin is exfoliated; second, an alphahydroxy acid is applied; third, carbon dioxide is applied to cool the skin.
