| Forehead Lift: Recovery |
After surgery, you may experience some numbness and temporary discomfort around the incision that may be controlled with over the counter or prescription medications. Endoscopic patients usually experience less pain and itching than patients who undergo the classic forehead lift. Most patients are told to keep the head elevated for 2 to 3 days after surgery to reduce swelling. Swelling may also affect the cheeks and eyes, although this should disappear in a week or two. As the nerves begin to heal, the numbness may be replaced by itching. This may take up to six months to fully disappear. Most stitches can be removed in two weeks. Some hair around the incision may fall out and hair regrowth may be thinner for several months. Permanent hair loss is rare. Your surgeon will schedule a series of follow-up exams after your surgery.
You should plan on taking it easy for at least the first week after surgery. As soon as the bandage is removed, you can shower and gently shampoo your hair. Minor swelling and bruising can be concealed with special camouflage makeup. You may be tired, but your energy level will increase as you begin to look and feel better. Most patients are back to work within 7 to 10 days, even sooner for endoscopic patients. Vigorous activity should be limited for 3 to 4 weeks and prolonged exposure to sun and heat should be avoided for 3 to 4 months.
