Pectoral Implants: About the Procedure
Pectoral implant surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure. The operation may take place in a freestanding surgical center or a hospital outpatient facility. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes one to two hours.

Your plastic surgeon may prefer performing this surgery endoscopically. In this method the surgeon uses a long, thin, lighted tube (the endoscope) to create a path from the armpit to the chest and place the implants. A small camera on the endoscope allows the surgeon to see all this on a video screen. As a rule, incisions can be smaller and bleeding is minimal in an endoscopic procedure.

The implants are placed beneath the chest muscles. Muscle function is not disturbed; after healing, the patient can resume normal exercise and work.
