| Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty): Pain |
Moderate pain in the nasal area as well as a dull headache after surgery are considered normal. You will probably receive a prescription for pain medication for 5-10 days to take as needed; however, in 2-3 days, you can probably use acetaminophen to manage pain.
You may not be able to breathe through your nose for several weeks and may feel congested and "stuffy." Your nose, especially the tip, may feel numb. Feeling often returns in the first few months. If your nose was packed, the packing can be uncomfortable. When removed, about 3 to 7 days later in the doctor's office, it may be painful and sensitive. Bruises and swelling around the eyes and nose may be visible for several weeks following the surgery.
If you wear contacts, you may be unable to wear them for several days after surgery due to swelling around the eye area.
