| Barely B and Me - The Big Day |
|
 |
The Big Day Is Here The big day is here and I feel pretty calm. My husband took the day off and drove me to my appointment. I immediately changed out of my clothes into a surgical gown. Dr. Gervais came in and drew all over my chest with a black marker. It felt like he was drawing everything so big! My anesthetist came in and started an IV in my hand and gave me all the proper warnings. Well, all I have to do now is wait...
The nurse came in to get me and I followed her into my operating room. I was surprised at how the bed looked. It didn't look like the ones you see on ER. It was a skinny bed with extended arms. It looked very much like a cross. I was instructed to lie down on the bed and put my arms out. I did. The next thing I knew, I was in recovery! I didn't even remember them putting me out! I asked, "Is it over?", and right away I knew it was. I could feel the tightness in my chest. "I did it", I thought. After the proper recovery time, I was able to walk out to the car with my husband. I didn't have any reaction to the anesthesia, thank goodness. I was given a muscle relaxant, pain killer and antibiotic to take home. I don't remember much of the rest of the day, because I slept until the next morning. Propped up on the couch, that is.
Well, when I woke up in the morning, I definitely could feel the pain. I guess I would describe it as a pulled muscle, but only worse. I can't feel the incisions at all. In fact, I don't even know where the incisions are. I was warned that I would be riding "high and tight", but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I don't think that I am overly big, either. I was expecting a lot worse. My implants are low-profile, so the fullness is on the bottom and sides, not in the cleavage area. Looking down my t-shirt, I look just like I did before the surgery. But from the side, I look bigger.
The Pain Factor I was really afraid of the pain, and some of the message boards I have read have described the pain as anything from "excruciating" to "not bad at all." All I can say is Thank God for Vicadin! There are parts of my breasts that are numb. The cleavage and nipple area have hardly any feeling. This is normal, though, according to my doctor. I'm not too worried. The surgical bra and tape they put on me are quite attractive. LOL! But, even though I am swollen and they are not sitting right yet, I can tell that I will like my new shape. Well, I need to go and eat something so I can continue taking my medication. Rule #1, take your meds! Later... -K
